The Nevada Office of the Labor Commissioner has announced upcoming changes to the state's minimum wage, effective July 1, 2024. These changes are a result of Assembly Bill 456, which was passed in 2019. The bill increased the minimum wage by increments of 75 cents annually over five years. The final increase will set Nevada’s minimum wage at $12 per hour.
Additionally, following the passage of Nevada Ballot Question 2 by voters in November 2022, the two-tier minimum wage system has been eliminated. This system previously allowed for a reduced minimum wage if an employer offered qualified health benefits. Now, unless exempted by law, all employees in Nevada are subject to the $12 minimum wage.
The rise in minimum wage also affects daily overtime rates. Employees who earn one and one-half times the minimum wage ($18 per hour) or more qualify for overtime at one and one-half times their regular pay rate for work exceeding 40 hours in a week. Those earning less than $18 per hour are eligible for overtime after working more than eight hours in a day or over 40 hours in a week.
