The Nevada Department of Education has announced the winners of the 2025 Nevada Reading Week student art contest. The grand prize was awarded to Kaelynne Kindred, an 11th-grade student at Eldorado High School in the Clark County School District.

This year, 753 students from ten school districts, public charter schools, private schools, and homeschooling participated in the statewide contest. "We have remarkable student artists across our state, and we are thrilled that hundreds participated in the Nevada Reading Week art contest," stated Jhone Ebert, Superintendent of Public Instruction.

Nevada Reading Week is scheduled for March 3-7, 2025, with a theme of “Color Our World With Books.” The winning artwork will be used as the official logo for the event and featured on various promotional materials. Kindred's design portrays three books "painting" the world. She explained her inspiration: "Books have the power to open minds and inspire change."

In addition to recognition during a virtual award ceremony on Tuesday, Kindred will receive a $150 Amazon gift card. Her artwork will be displayed at both Carson City and Las Vegas offices of the Nevada Department of Education.

Jenny Buckley, Kindred’s art teacher at Eldorado High School praised her work: “Kaelynne is an amazing artist... Her expressive and illustrative style showcases her artistic strengths.”

Honorable mention winners will each receive a $75 Amazon gift card while their teachers receive $25 Amazon gift cards.

Since its inception in 1987, Nevada Reading Week has promoted literacy through shared thematic activities involving educators, librarians, students, and community members. This year's events include engaging opportunities such as an Author LIVE Event connecting over 30,000 students with authors last year.

To support reading goals during this period, Capstone is offering free access to digital resources like PebbleGo to all students across Nevada from February through April. Katherine Coughlan from Capstone expressed excitement about partnering with Nevada Reading Week: “We are thrilled to partner... by providing resources children need.”

T-shirt orders for Nevada Reading Week can be placed online starting November 26 until January 23 next year.
