The Nevada Department of Education has reported an increase in high school graduation rates for the Class of 2024. The statewide graduation rate rose to 81.6 percent, a slight improvement from the previous year's rate of 81.4 percent, with a total of 31,978 students graduating.
Jhone Ebert, Superintendent of Public Instruction, commented on the progress: "The increase we saw in Nevada in the statewide high school graduation rate is a step in the right direction. Any improvement is cause for celebration, even a modest one like we experienced last year. The reality is this: It is premature to claim victory as long as even one student is struggling to graduate. We applaud the hard work of educators and students. At the same time, we acknowledge that our agenda is unfinished, and work remains."
In most districts across Nevada—14 out of 17—the graduation rates exceeded the state average. Nine districts recorded increases compared to last year’s figures.
Notably, Nye County School District achieved a significant rise with a 6.12-percentage point increase, reaching an 86.1 percent graduation rate for this year’s class.
Other districts showing improvements include Carson City, Douglas, Esmeralda, Lincoln, Lyon, Mineral, Washoe, and White Pine.
