Americans for Prosperity-Louisiana (AFP-LA) has expressed approval following the passage of several key tax reform bills by the House. The bills, including HB 1, 3, and 7, are integral components of Governor Jeff Landry’s proposed tax plan. They aim to simplify the individual income tax system, eliminate the corporate franchise tax, and amend Article VII of the State Constitution. AFP-LA believes these legislative moves are significant in addressing what it describes as a complicated and onerous state tax code.
Scott Simon, AFP-LA State Director, stated: “This week AFP-LA is encouraged to see legislators come alongside the Governor’s tax plan and move towards practical steps that get Louisiana in fiscal order with a low-rate and flat individual income tax. We look forward to working throughout the special session to help ensure long-lasting and fiscally responsible tax reform is accomplished and hope the Senate quickly follows the House in taking up these and the other tax reform bills.”
AFP-LA has launched an online platform to inform residents about potential savings from the proposed reforms. The organization encourages citizens to engage with their representatives on this issue. Additionally, Scott Simon recently provided testimony at a House Ways and Means Hearing emphasizing responsible tax reform during this special session.
