The Southern Desert Regional Police Academy recently held a ceremony to honor its graduating Class 2402. Commander Tony Summerlin addressed the graduates, emphasizing the demanding nature of their future roles. He described the job as an “endless, nightless task that’s got to be done.”
Mayor Shelley Berkley also spoke at the event, underscoring the significance of law enforcement in society. She expressed gratitude on behalf of Las Vegas residents, stating, “The very essence of our democracy and civilization depends on law enforcement. On behalf of the 670,000 Las Vegans I represent, I want to thank you and congratulate you. Our lives are in your hands, and I know we are in very good hands with all of you.”
The ceremony included a tribute to fallen officers such as Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Officer Colton Filsfer. A moment of silence was observed, and white roses were placed in their memory. Families and friends applauded as the new officers began their careers.
