The West Charleston Campus has announced Derita Hopkins as the January 2025 Employee of the Month for classified staff. Hopkins, an Administrative Assistant II in the Human Behavior Department, was nominated by Dr. Shelley Fischer.

Dr. Fischer praised Hopkins' customer service skills, stating, "Customer Service is her ability to take care of 'business' and make everyone feel good when they enter with problems, work, chatter, etc. She listens well, tries to process what is needed, and help those who really need it."

As part of the recognition, Hopkins will receive $200, a certificate, a plaque, and a designated parking spot. She will also be acknowledged at all three campuses. The award aims to honor exceptional classified employees who consistently perform at high levels.

Additionally, the "Rewind & Recognize" initiative seeks to honor past recipients of the Classified Employee of the Month (CEOM) title from 2023 who may not have received adequate recognition. The Classified Council emphasizes the importance of gratitude and fostering a culture of appreciation within their community.
