As the 2025 legislative session begins in Kansas, Americans for Prosperity-Kansas (AFP-KS) has expressed concerns over Governor Laura Kelly's recent address and budget proposal. The organization claims that the governor's plan would lead to fiscal irresponsibility.

AFP-KS is urging lawmakers to consider its Sunflower State Solutions agenda, which it says aligns with voter concerns and promotes bottom-up policies. Liz Patton, AFP-KS State Director, stated: “The Kansas House and Senate got to work quickly, and we’re thrilled to partner with countless policy champions as the session unfolds. Yet, the economic opportunity sought by the many people we talk to at the doors across Kansas does not happen under Governor Kelly’s proposed budget of increased spending, special interest projects, and growing government bigger than the private sector."

Patton emphasized that legislators should focus on controlling wasteful spending to support Kansans affected by inflation. She added: "If we want to be a state that succeeds and is competitive in the region, we need a smart and efficient budget, lower taxes, lower energy regulations, and less red tape. Last year, Governor Kelly did little to usher in a strong economy unless her hand was forced by fiscally sound Kansas lawmakers. We must continue the fight to return money to hardworking Kansans through smart and effective tax relief.”

The group encourages citizens to stay informed about their efforts through email alerts.
