The College of Southern Nevada (CSN) has opened a new Nursing Simulation Center at its North Las Vegas Campus. This facility aims to address the critical nursing shortage in Southern Nevada, where the state ranks 48th out of 50 for such shortages.
The development of this center was supported by Congressman Steven Horsford, Assembly Bill 375, and the Governor's Office of Economic Development’s Workforce Innovations for a New Nevada (WINN) program. The simulation lab features four rooms equipped with lifelike mannequins that can breathe, talk, and simulate childbirth. Additionally, CSN offers a Virtual Reality Immersive experience unique to its nursing program in Southern Nevada.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the official opening on January 23. Remarks were given by CSN leaders and community partners during the event.
In recent achievements, CSN nursing students attained a pass rate of 96.74% on the NCLEX-RN exam in early 2023. Dr. Elizabeth Solomon, Director of Nursing at CSN, expressed enthusiasm about the new learning opportunities: “I am excited for our students to be able to learn in this way,” she said. “Providing quality, evidence-based healthcare is at the heart of CSN nursing.”
Dr. Solomon emphasized the importance of preparing students for future roles in healthcare: “Our students are the future of healthcare in Southern Nevada, and we’re proud to provide them with the tools they need to succeed.”
