The LULAC Multi-Purpose Senior Center, also known as the Arturo Cambiero Senior Center, has been added to the National Register of Historic Places. Built between 1985 and 1986, this center holds significance due to its association with the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) and their efforts to support Spanish-speaking seniors in Las Vegas. It is one of only two senior centers nationwide designed and constructed by LULAC.
The National Park Service recognized the center for its historical and cultural importance, which may lead to opportunities for grant funding and tax incentives aimed at preserving such sites. Currently functioning as the Adult Day Healthcare Center at 330 N. 13th Street in Las Vegas, Nevada, the property is owned by the Southern Nevada Regional Housing Authority.
The building's architectural style is Spanish Colonial Revival, chosen for its relevance to the Latino community. Despite an addition in 2015, it retains its original structure from 1985-86. The center is locally significant under Criterion A in Ethnic Heritage: Hispanic and Social History.
LULAC, a national Latino advocacy group founded in Corpus Christi, Texas in 1929, established Council #11081 in Las Vegas in 1978. This council was part of several non-profit organizations formed to improve life quality for Latinos in Las Vegas.
The center joins other historic sites in Las Vegas listed on the National Register, including the Leroy and Carrie Christensen House and Las Vegas Grammar School. Las Vegas is among six Certified Local Governments (CLG) in Nevada committed to local preservation through a partnership program involving the National Park Service.
