As Southern Nevada faces ongoing challenges related to housing stability, food security, and essential utilities, the United Way of Southern Nevada (UWSN) has announced the availability of $1,220,268 in federal funds. These funds are part of Phase 42 of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP).
In the fiscal year 2024, Nevada 2-1-1 received 122,000 calls from residents in Southern Nevada seeking assistance with basic needs such as housing, food, and utilities. The newly allocated funding aims to support local nonprofits that work to help individuals and families across the region. Nonprofits can apply for this funding until Friday, February 28, 2025, at 5:00 PM Pacific Time.
Last year, UWSN collaborated with FEMA, United Way Worldwide, and 22 local nonprofit organizations to address these urgent needs. Together they provided housing, food, and utility support to over 61,000 Southern Nevadans. EFSP funds come from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s FEMA. As the local fiscal agent for EFSP, UWSN manages the application process and works with the EFSP Local Board to evaluate and distribute resources among nonprofit partners in Southern Nevada.
Nonprofit organizations interested in applying must watch a mandatory applicant webinar to qualify. The recorded webinar is available on uwsn.org/EFSP and must be viewed by Friday, February 28, 2025. Applicants need to certify that they have watched the webinar which includes application instructions and an application code.
Organizations with questions about the application process can contact EFSP@uwsn.org.
