Higher education in Nevada is witnessing a transformation with the introduction of Open Educational Resources (OER), which aim to make learning more accessible and affordable. Faculty members and instructors in Nevada are invited to participate in the ExplOER Nevada Symposium, scheduled for Friday, March 7, 2025. This virtual event is dedicated to exploring OER—free and accessible learning materials that can enhance classroom instruction while reducing costs for students.
The symposium is hosted by UNLV, CSN, University of Nevada, Reno, and Truckee Meadows Community College. It will offer engaging discussions, expert insights, and practical strategies to help educators integrate OER into their teaching practices.
The event's agenda includes several key sessions. The day begins with a Welcome and Keynote Address from 9 AM to 9:45 AM. Following this are various informative sessions such as the Lightning Round Presentation from 10 AM to 10:50 AM, featuring quick presentations on key OER topics. There will also be a Faculty and Student Expert Panel Q&A providing perspectives on how OER affects both instructors and learners. Additionally, an OER 101 Workshop from 11 AM to Noon offers a beginner-friendly introduction to the essentials of Open Educational Resources.
