The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has announced a new partnership with Western Nevada College (WNC) to offer the Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Third Party Certification program. This initiative will be available at the Carson City and Fallon campuses, providing prospective truckers with the opportunity to take their CDL skills test directly at these locations.
Wayne Bahmiller, DMV Services Manager, expressed optimism about the collaboration: “This partnership will undoubtedly benefit both WNC and the DMV. Now that students are able to take their skills testing onsite at either campus, additional appointments will become more readily available for the public at our CDL offices.”
The program is supported by a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor, aimed at aiding students in Nevada's expanding trucking industry. The goal is to streamline the process for students to obtain their CDL license and join the workforce more swiftly.
Public Information Officer Hailey Foster highlighted the advantages for students: “This program is extremely beneficial for students that are interested in obtaining their CDL license. More testing locations will hopefully produce more licensed drivers – and becoming a certified truck driver can be an excellent career path.”
The WNC CDL course also connects students with employers eager to hire graduates. Those interested in learning more about the program can visit wnc.edu/cdl or call (775) 445-4210.
