Dr. Marlene Drake has developed a unique approach to teaching that incorporates outdoor activities to enhance mental health and wellness among her students. Her innovative methods involve taking the class outside for meditation sessions and physical activities such as walking or jogging around campus. This approach allows students to engage in hands-on learning while simultaneously relieving stress.
In addition to these regular activities, Dr. Drake's class on Tuesdays includes outdoor lectures accompanied by picnics, combining education with relaxation in a natural setting.
Dr. Drake's efforts were highlighted on News 3’s “Mental Health Matters” segment, where she demonstrated how simple changes like incorporating movement, breathing exercises, and spending time outdoors can significantly improve well-being.
The initiative provides a compelling reason for individuals to leave indoor environments and take a moment for fresh air and relaxation.
