Western Nevada College hosted a Career Fair on Wednesday, offering students and local employers a platform for workforce training and networking. The event took place in The Link, a new learning space located in the Aspen Building on the Carson City campus.
Dr. J. Kyle Dalpe, President of WNC, expressed gratitude towards the participating employers: "We really appreciate that 30 employers in our region devoted their time to participate in introducing many of our students to workforce training in our new career services learning space." He emphasized the importance of these efforts in providing insights into future employment opportunities for students.
The fair allowed students to explore job options by directly interacting with potential employers, with some even having the chance to be hired immediately. Trina Hoffer, a WNC student, found it enlightening: “It was cool to learn about businesses that I didn’t know existed.” Denise Velazquez, another business student at WNC, appreciated discussions with a University of Nevada, Reno representative regarding future prospects and internships.
Employers from various sectors such as education, military, law enforcement, healthcare, and more were present. Christopher Croft from WNC's Career Services highlighted the event's purpose: “This Spring 2025 Career Fair is to connect students with employers for networking and career opportunities.”
Community employers included organizations like Alpine County Schools, American First Credit Union, Bridgestone (Tires Plus), Carson City Sheriff’s Office, Carson Tahoe Health among others.
The Career Fair marked an inaugural use of The Link as intended—a hub for career development and employer networking. Croft noted its significance: “This inaugural use highlights The Link’s intended purpose as a central hub for career development and employer networking on campus.”
