Kristen Gibson, a community college student studying psychology, has been recognized as a semifinalist for the Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship. This national award aims to assist high-achieving community college students in transferring to esteemed four-year universities, minimizing the burden of educational debt.

Gibson is among 467 semifinalists chosen from a pool of over 1,600 applicants across the United States. The scholarship provides financial support of up to $55,000 annually for as many as three years, alongside access to advising, internships, study abroad programs, and potential graduate school funding.

This scholarship targets students who demonstrate exceptional academic capabilities, financial need, and leadership qualities. Giuseppe “Seppy” Basili, Executive Director of the Cooke Foundation, remarked, “Our Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship represents a lifeline for exceptional community college students to actualize their academic dreams. This year’s semifinalists exemplify the extraordinary talent found within community colleges across America.”

The semifinalists come from 212 community colleges located in 43 states. The Cooke Foundation plans to announce the winners of the 2025 Undergraduate Transfer Scholars in May.

If successful, Gibson will join a network of scholars and alumni who have attended top-tier universities and pursued noteworthy careers, furthering her goal to contribute positively through the field of psychology.
