Julie Muhle's impact on the lives of students at TMCC's Dental Assisting Program was profound. Known for her positivity, a quote in her office captured her philosophy: “Everything is Figureoutable.” Muhle's determination and encouragement helped many students complete their education and pursue careers. "Student success is at the heart of 100% of what we do," she stated.
The TMCC community mourns Muhle's death. Faculty, staff, family, and students remember her as a cherished mother, friend, colleague, and instructor. She passed away from cancer on January 14, 2025, surrounded by family.
Muhle's influence extended beyond TMCC to the broader dental community. The Northern Nevada Dental Society renamed their endowed scholarship to the Julie Muhle Memorial Scholarship to honor her contributions. The scholarship will continue to support TMCC Dental Assisting students. Furthermore, Nevada Dental Health Day at the Legislature will now be titled the Julie Muhle Oral Health Legislative Day.
Before her teaching career, Muhle worked as a dental assistant for two decades. She later joined TMCC as a part-time instructor and advanced to a full-time faculty member and program coordinator. Her education journey included two associate degrees from TMCC and a Bachelor's and Master's in Education.
Reflecting on her achievements in a 2021 interview, Muhle described the pride she felt walking at her commencement ceremony with her students. “I was so proud,” she recalled. “As a student, I felt the instructors, the people in Admissions and Records, Counseling—everyone I encountered at TMCC—was part of my journey. They were all so encouraging. Now as a full-time faculty member, I see that we are behind every student, and we want them to do well. We have a vested interest in them and their future.”
