The Business and Entrepreneurship Club recently organized a Shark Tank event to provide students with a platform to practice their business pitching skills and secure start-up funding. According to Jennifer Perico, President of the BE Club, the event is designed to help students with innovative ideas find support and opportunities. She explained, “Shark Tank is an event that helps students who have everyday ideas that are waiting to be discovered. BE Club thrives in connecting and supporting students that have business or product ideas.”
The event concluded with four finalists: Arianne (Ari) Manuel, creator of "EmpowHer," secured first place, followed by Yvette Bartlett with "Level Up Study," Shania Taylor with "Flash Zone," and Luis Mendozal with "ASL On the Go." The top three finalists received monetary prizes, while Manuel and Mendozal additionally received goodie bags from supporting organizations. Judges included Ali Marie from She Means Business, TMCC Dean of Business and Social Sciences Amy Williams, local entrepreneur Charles La Palme, Tyler Parrish, and Kaden Ackerson.
Perico praised the participants, saying, “We want to shout out to the students who participated in Shark Tank 2025. On top of work assignments in their classroom, they managed to volunteer, practice, schedule with mentors and all that went into preparing for their business pitch.” She also expressed gratitude toward Dean Amy Williams and Management Professor Nancy O'Neal for their support and recognized the BE Club officers for their hard work in event preparation.
A new app has been launched for users of the TMCC Sports and Fitness Center. This application allows users to keep up with the latest announcements and updates, including gym hours and class schedules. Users are also encouraged to provide feedback and will need to use the app for the check-in process soon.
In other news, TMCC has been designated as a Voter-Friendly Campus for the 2025-2026 period. The college is the only community college in Nevada to achieve this designation, as it continues its engagement in electoral processes through initiatives like the TMCC Votes website. The designation comes under a program initiated in 2016 by the Fair Elections Center's Campus Vote Project and NASPA, aimed at developing democratic engagement plans in educational institutions.
