The Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation (TTCF) and the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) have initiated a regional housing survey to assess evolving housing needs in the wider Lake Tahoe Region. The survey spans the Lake Tahoe Basin and the Tahoe-Truckee Unified School District area, covering parts of Eastern Placer and Nevada Counties, including Truckee Town.
"The analysis also breaks down housing needs by factors such as location, unit size, and income level, giving a clearer picture of the specific needs within different areas of the region," explained Kristina Kind, Program Director at TTCF. "By comparing these results to those from the 2016, 2021, and 2023 assessments, our organizations can better understand how housing needs have changed over time and which groups are most affected."
Survey data is sought from local residents, seasonal workers, in-commuters, and those experiencing homelessness. The results will illuminate regional housing demands, potentially leading to more affordable, higher-quality, or better-located housing units.
Past assessments have contributed to forming the Mountain Housing Council, developing policy recommendations, and initiating fifteen regional housing programs. The survey is accessible online in English and Spanish until May 30, 2025, via provided links.
This assessment will cover all of Truckee, North Tahoe, and the complete Lake Tahoe Basin for the first time. TTCF will analyze the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District area's data to aid regional housing partners, while TRPA will update the Lake Tahoe Region's community housing needs, supporting the Cultivating Community, Conserving the Basin project.
Survey responses will remain confidential, with aggregate results shared with housing partners and available on TTCF’s website and the TRPA website.
The Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation, since 1998, has worked with various partners to promote community resilience and environmental stewardship. From 2017 to 2023, TTCF led the Mountain Housing Council of Tahoe Truckee to advance housing solutions in the area.
