The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) has partnered with Clark County to expand the eduroam Wi-Fi service to various public locations in the county. This initiative aims to enhance connectivity for students, educators, and researchers across Nevada.
Anne Milkovich, Chief Information Officer for NSHE, stated, “Expanding eduroam into communities like Clark County ensures students and researchers can stay connected beyond the classroom and across Nevada.” She added that this partnership is part of a broader effort to provide connectivity options statewide.
NSHE’s initiative seeks to extend eduroam access beyond college campuses. With state support, this service is offered at no cost to local government and community partners. NSHE System Computing Services collaborates with K-12 schools, libraries, museums, and municipalities to increase accessibility throughout the state.
In Clark County, key locations for the rollout include the Clark County Government Center, Russell Campus buildings, all county parks, and other high-traffic facilities. This expansion aligns with Clark County’s Broadband Adoption and Community Engagement Program. The program recently received $10.7 million from the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) to improve digital literacy and connectivity for underserved communities.
Bob Leek, Chief Information Officer for Clark County, commented on the collaboration: “The County continues to lead the efforts throughout Southern Nevada to provide everyone...with reliable and secure internet access.” He expressed satisfaction in partnering with NSHE SCS to enhance connectivity options in Clark County.
Eduroam in Nevada provides secure wireless internet access for students, faculty, and researchers affiliated with NSHE institutions when visiting other institutions worldwide. NSHE SCS is working towards expanding this service's availability across various educational and public institutions in Nevada.
