Arthur Krupicz has been appointed as the State Historic Preservation Officer for Nevada, succeeding Rebecca Palmer. Palmer's 30 years of service have significantly contributed to preserving Nevada's cultural and historical heritage.

The Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (NDCNR) also acknowledged Robin Reed for her role as Interim Administrator since last fall. Her leadership ensured continuity during the transition. With Krupicz’s appointment, Reed will return to her position as Deputy Administrator.

As the new Administrator, Krupicz will oversee efforts to identify, preserve, and promote Nevada’s historic and archaeological resources. His responsibilities include ensuring compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act, supporting local preservation programs and Certified Local Governments, managing federal and state grant programs, and collaborating with Nevada’s 21 federally recognized tribes, local governments, and public land management agencies.

Krupicz brings over three decades of experience in historic preservation, archaeology, and public service. He was previously a Historic Preservation Specialist for the Nevada Division of State Parks. His career includes roles such as Review and Compliance Archaeologist with SHPO, cultural resource analyst, and founding director of New Mexico’s statewide site stewardship program.

His professional background encompasses managing federal grant portfolios, developing training programs, authoring technical reports and historic resource assessments, and teaching anthropology at various colleges in Nevada. Krupicz holds a Master of Arts in Anthropology from the University of Arkansas and a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from the University of Maryland.

“Mr. Krupicz’s appointment is an exciting step forward for the Nevada State Historic Preservation Office,” stated NDCNR Director James Settelmeyer. “His decades of experience, collaborative leadership style, and deep respect for Nevada’s cultural legacy make him well-qualified to guide SHPO into its next chapter of service and stewardship.”
