Brittney Schell's educational journey is set to reach a significant milestone as she graduates from Western Nevada College (WNC) on May 19 with a Bachelor’s degree in Organization Project Management. This achievement comes 11 years after earning her Associate of Applied Science in General Business in 2014, highlighting her dedication and commitment to personal and professional growth.
Dr. J. Kyle Dalpe, President of WNC, expressed pride in Schell's accomplishments, stating, “We are incredibly proud of Brittney and all of our graduates. Brittney’s journey is an inspiring example of how adults can return to higher education and achieve their academic and career aspirations, no matter when they start."
Schell's decision to return to WNC was influenced by the college's new online bachelor’s program in Organization and Project Management. She explained, “When I saw the flexibility of the online program, I realized it was the perfect time to pursue my degree.”
Her return to academia was met with praise from faculty members like Dr. Robert Whitcomb, Professor of Business, Management and Marketing at WNC. He noted that Schell had become a remarkable student who contributed unique insights into classes.
The financial support from WNC Foundation scholarships played a crucial role in Schell's ability to continue her education. She credited JW Lazzari for his assistance with financial aid and guidance throughout her academic pursuits.
Schell found the coursework relevant to her career goals, stating that it provided essential management principles applicable across industries. The practical tools taught in the program enhanced her confidence in leading projects and managing teams.
Maintaining a place on the Dean’s List each semester since returning was particularly meaningful for Schell. “Being on the Dean’s List was a goal I didn’t think I could reach,” she shared.
Looking ahead, Schell is exploring careers in environmental stewardship, sustainability, and project management while considering further education such as an MBA.
Dr. Whitcomb praised Schell's passion for learning: “She is inquisitive, committed to self-improvement and loves learning."
As she prepares for graduation day celebrations with family and friends, Schell encourages others contemplating returning to school: “If you have a goal, go for it.”
Her story underscores the transformative power of education and its potential impact on individuals' lives.
