TMCC prepares for commencement ceremony honoring diverse class of graduates

Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC) is preparing to celebrate the Class of 2025 at its annual Commencement Ceremony on May 23 at the Lawlor Events Center. This year, 1,366 students are candidates for graduation, having earned a total of 1,468 degrees or certificates. The ceremony will include graduates from Fall 2024, Spring 2025, and Summer 2025.

The graduating class includes recipients of various degrees: 57 bachelor's degrees, 1,232 associate degrees, and 179 certificates of achievement. Additionally, dual-enrolled students from ACE High School and TMCC High School have earned a combined total of 88 degrees.

New programs at TMCC will award their first degrees or certificates this year in fields such as Architecture, Business and Entrepreneurship, Graphic Communications with a Motion Graphics Track, Nutrition and Dietetics, Psychology, and Radiologic Technology.

The Class of 2025 represents a diverse group with international students from countries including Japan, the Philippines, France, Costa Rica, South Africa, the Republic of Korea, Romania, and Thailand. Among the graduates are also Nevada Promise Scholars (227), student-athletes (9), and veteran students (92). The oldest graduate is aged 69 and will receive an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Paralegal Studies. The youngest graduates are two individuals aged 16 who will each receive an associate degree.

Sophia Roman has been named the recipient of the Sam Lieberman Regents’ Award for Student Scholarship. Despite leaving high school to care for family members and later obtaining her high school equivalency diploma (HiSET), she became a full-time student at TMCC while working full-time. Roman mentors other low-income first-generation college students and participates in TMCC Theatre productions.

Arthur Pacheco has been recognized as the 2025 TMCC Alumnus of the Year. Overcoming challenges such as generational poverty and unstable home life during his youth before becoming a young father himself led him back to education at TMCC. A graduate since 2010 who embraced learning fully; he now teaches math to gifted students at Proctor R. Hug High School while coaching multiple sports teams there too alongside previous teaching roles within TMCC’s Success First Summer Bridge program over seven years.
