Kristen Gibson, a psychology graduate from the College of Southern Nevada (CSN), has been awarded the 2025 Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship. She is one of 90 students selected nationwide from over 1,600 applicants for this prestigious award aimed at community college students pursuing a bachelor's degree.
“It’s an incredible honor,” Gibson stated, emphasizing the support she received at CSN as pivotal to her success. “This college has helped me grow personally and academically, and I hope this recognition shows other students — especially nontraditional students — that it’s possible.”
The scholarship offers up to $55,000 annually for up to three years to cover educational expenses at a four-year institution. Recipients also benefit from personalized advising, career resources, an alumni network, and opportunities such as internships and study abroad programs.
The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation highlighted the selection process involved reviewing more than 1,600 applications and choosing scholars based on academic performance, financial need, leadership qualities, and perseverance.
“This year’s cohort reflects the remarkable talent and determination thriving in community colleges nationwide,” said Executive Director Seppy Basili. “As we mark 25 years of impact, we remain committed to amplifying the successes of these students and opening doors to the opportunities they deserve.”
Gibson views this scholarship as a significant step in her journey driven by resilience and ambition. More information about the scholarship program and a list of all recipients can be found at jkcf.org.
