Nevada State University will soon have its own specialty license plate, following the signing of a new bill by Governor Joe Lombardo. The legislation, known as Senate Bill 181 and sponsored by State Senator Michelee Cruz-Crawford, was passed unanimously by the Nevada Legislature. This initiative introduces a license plate that features Nevada State’s signature gold on a black background along with the Scorpion mascot.

The proceeds from these plates are intended to support two key areas: the university's athletics program and initiatives addressing food insecurity among students. Dr. DeRionne Pollard, President of Nevada State University, expressed enthusiasm about this development, stating, “We’re thrilled to offer our community another way to show their pride and passion for Nevada State.”

Governor Joe Lombardo also commented on the significance of this initiative: “Nevada State University plays a vital role in producing the critical workforce roles of tomorrow, and I’m proud to support this new opportunity for Nevadans to show their Scorpion pride.” He emphasized that funds from these plates would directly benefit both students and the athletics program.

Senator Michelee Cruz-Crawford highlighted the importance of this step for historically underrepresented and low-income students at Nevada State. She remarked that the license plate is "a celebration of their grit and determination."

This new addition joins existing specialty plates from other state institutions like the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and the University of Nevada, Reno.
