The summer season is underway at Educational Programs Inspiring the Community (EPIC), offering a diverse range of over 130 classes. These programs, held at TMCC's Meadowood Center, cover topics from arts and crafts to food and beverage, and dance. Classes are designed to be accessible for everyone, with options for outdoor learning or within air-conditioned facilities.
Current enrollments include photography classes led by professional photographer Mark Vollmer. Participants can learn to take high-impact photos using smartphones in "Phone Photography for Enthusiasts," explore local scenery in "Photograph Lake Tahoe," and delve into specialized subjects like "Shooting in the Dark" and "Wildlife Photography."
Fishing enthusiasts can join beginner courses such as "Fly Fishing for Beginners" or "Fishing for the Absolute Beginner," providing new ways to enjoy local rivers and lakes.
Family-friendly classes are available, including activities like hand-sewn sock monkeys, dance lessons, clay crafting, and cookie decorating. For those interested in handmade crafts, EPIC offers sessions on chunky yarn blankets, Huichol art painting, greeting card design, cabochon beading, lapidary basics, pine needle basket weaving, and watercolor flower painting.
EPIC also caters to lifelong learners aged 60+ with courses like "Encore Mobility & Fitness" and Chinese Mahjong. Gardening enthusiasts can attend sessions on plant selection suitable for high desert climates or organic gardening techniques.
Beer aficionados may appreciate the new beer classes exploring German beers' history and flavors. Dr. Jeffrey Alexander will lead a session titled "Brewed in Japan: The Origins and Growth of the Japanese Beer Industry."
