The Nevada System of Higher Education's Board of Regents has renewed the contract for Dr. DeRionne Pollard, President of Nevada State University. The decision follows a positive evaluation and notable progress in various areas at the university.
“President Pollard has positioned Nevada State as a forward-looking university with a strong sense of purpose,” said Amy J. Carvalho, Chair of the Board of Regents. “Her work reflects a deep commitment to expanding access to higher education and delivering results for Nevada students. The Board is proud to support her continued leadership.”
Dr. Pollard, who assumed her role in 2021, has overseen significant changes at Nevada State. Her tenure includes the institution's transition from 'college' to 'university,' an expansion in graduate programs, increased enrollment in critical fields like nursing and teaching, and the launch of its first athletics program. She also played a key role in securing new investments for student success, including a $5 million anonymous donation for the First and Fierce Program aimed at supporting first-generation students, along with over $13.7 million in federal earmarks to enhance academic programs and campus infrastructure. This spring marked the university's second-largest graduating class, with 869 degrees awarded.
“As Nevada State continues to grow, I look forward to working alongside Dr. Pollard to strengthen NSHE’s impact across the state,” stated Chancellor Matt McNair. “Her bold, student-centered vision and collaborative leadership are exactly what’s needed as we continue shaping a higher education system that reflects Nevada’s future.”
The Board's decision was based on an extensive evaluation process that gathered input from students, faculty, staff, and community partners. The evaluation committee recommended renewal due to Dr. Pollard's performance and the momentum she has fostered at the university.
“I’m incredibly honored to continue serving as president of Nevada State University,” expressed Dr. Pollard. “This is a community that believes in the power of education to transform lives, and I’m proud of what we’ve built together. There’s still more to do, and I’m excited to continue that work with our students, faculty, and staff.”
