Nevada's 'Lithium Loop' tech hub is set to receive $21 million in funding for its next phase, according to an announcement. The lithium loop was among 31 regional programs designated as tech hubs last year by the Biden administration. This initiative is part of a broader federal effort to establish renewable energy sources domestically, reducing reliance on foreign nations.

U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo highlighted the significance of investing in areas with unique resources, noting that Nevada holds the largest lithium deposit in North America. "The whole point of this initiative is to invest in areas with something special," she said.

Secretary Raimondo further explained that President Biden’s "Investing in America" agenda aims to ensure that future industries are developed within the United States, creating jobs for American workers. "What we are trying to do is to have the industries of the future started in America, grown in America, and creating jobs for American workers," she stated.

The Nevada tech hub is led by the University of Nevada, Reno. Provost Jeff Thompson emphasized its potential impact on Northern Nevada and Reno's role in the green revolution. "This is an opportunity for Northern Nevada and Reno to be a part of the green revolution," he said.
