Nigel Harrison, a professor at Western Nevada College, has been honored as a Community Hero by Greater Nevada Credit Union. The recognition celebrates local heroes in various fields such as education, law enforcement, and healthcare.

“It’s amazing to be recognized for this honor,” Harrison expressed his gratitude upon receiving the award.

Harrison's contributions extend beyond academia. He has served in the military for nearly three decades with multiple deployments. Additionally, he volunteers as a youth sports coach and is actively involved in community service projects.

WNC President Dr. J. Kyle Dalpe praised Harrison's dedication: "We are extremely proud of Nigel for receiving this honor from Greater Nevada Credit Union. Not only has Nigel worked tirelessly for our students, but he has continually given back to this country and our community."

Earlier this year, Harrison led his students in assisting senior residents at Carson Solista with apartment repairs and installations. He also organized a volunteer effort to build an office wall for Genoa City Manager Jody Brunz.

As part of the recognition, Harrison was celebrated at the Reno Aces game on May 23, where he received an Aces’ jersey and four tickets to the game.

Greater Nevada Credit Union acknowledged all Community Heroes for their efforts in enhancing community safety and education: “Your actions matter — the big ones and the small daily moments when you help someone else Live Greater.”

Harrison holds a bachelor's degree in construction project management from WNC and a master's degree in education from the University of Nevada, Reno. He achieved tenure at WNC in 2024.
