Today, Attorney General Aaron D. Ford and 19 other attorneys general issued a joint statement following Supreme Court oral arguments concerning the Trump administration's efforts to terminate birthright citizenship.
The group of attorneys general includes representatives from Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington and the District of Columbia.
"Joining AG Ford in issuing the statement are the attorneys general of Arizona," stated the press release. The coalition expressed their stance against what they view as an unconstitutional move by the previous administration.
The oral arguments in question address significant constitutional implications regarding citizenship rights under U.S. law. The outcome of this case could have widespread effects on how citizenship is determined for those born within the United States.
