Governor Joe Lombardo has announced a $3 million allocation for rural infrastructure projects in Nevada. In addition to this state funding, Nevada counties and cities have contributed an extra $1,014,995 in matching funds.
Jessica Sanders, the CDBG Program Administrator at the Governor’s Office of Economic Development, emphasized the importance of these funds: “CDBG plays a big role in nurturing rural economic and community development across our state. We’re delighted to see these funds go towards so many great projects and the positive impacts they’ll bring to each of these areas for years to come.”
Since 1982, when the State began administering the program, more than $110 million has been awarded to rural communities in Nevada. The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program allows local governments to engage in various activities aimed at creating suitable living environments, providing affordable housing, and generating economic opportunities for people with low and moderate incomes. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development oversees this program nationally, while it is administered locally by the Rural Community Development Division of the Governor’s Office of Economic Development.
The Governor’s Office of Economic Development was established during the 2011 session of the Nevada Legislature as part of a collaborative effort between lawmakers and the Governor's Office. Its mission is to foster a robust and diversified economy in Nevada by stimulating business expansion and retention, encouraging entrepreneurial ventures, attracting new businesses, and facilitating community development.
