Laughter and handshakes marked the visit of 12 South American delegates to TMCC’s William N. Pennington Health Science Center, where they explored emergency management education as part of the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP). The program was coordinated locally by the Northern Nevada International Center at UNR.

Ryan Finnegan from the Northern Nevada International Center emphasized the importance of cross-cultural exchanges in fields like emergency management, stating that "emergencies increasingly transcend national borders" due to challenges such as climate change leading to more frequent disasters.

Chief Dennis Nolan and Associate Dean Mike Schulz presented TMCC’s Bachelor of Applied Science in Emergency Management program. Schulz highlighted the significance of international exchange, saying it showcases TMCC's role in global public safety conversations and affirms their program's relevance across borders.

Delegates were engaged throughout their visit, showing strong interest in the program's structure and impact. The visit concluded with a tour of TMCC’s emergency management simulation spaces, offering a glimpse into how students are trained for real-world emergencies.

This exchange facilitated cultural and professional collaboration, allowing for shared ideas on enhancing emergency preparedness locally and abroad.
