Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC) Foundation and Grants Office has acknowledged the Academic Advising team for their full participation in employee giving. The team is the first to receive the TMCC Foundation’s 100% Employee Giving Award, contributing through payroll deductions or annual donations to establish the Academic Advising Student Success Scholarship. This scholarship will provide $500 annually to a student.
Staci Miller, Interim Executive Director of Student Life and Development, along with Terry Armstrong, Academic Advisor, led this initiative with Stephanie Sellers, Associate Director of Development.
Miller expressed enthusiasm about creating the scholarship: “Our team is dedicated to working with students and being a part of their journey to success, so when we realized that our contributions could create a new scholarship that could help students reach their goals, we were all in. It is an honor to be recognized as the first office team to have 100% giving participation, and we encourage other teams to join us in helping students succeed.”
In recognition of their generosity, the TMCC Foundation and Grants team awarded the department a traveling trophy. Each member also received a TMCC employee giving lizard pin.
The trophy's inscription reads: “In recognition of your department’s generosity and 100% employee giving participation. Thank you for your outstanding support of TMCC and our students!”
Sellers stated: “This trophy is intended to travel around all four campuses as departments reach 100% employee giving participation. It’s more than just bragging rights—your team’s generosity can truly make a difference for our students and programs.”
While the Academic Advising team chose to consolidate their gifts into one scholarship fund, other departments have the option to contribute individually to causes they value at TMCC.
The trophy will remain in the Academic Advising office for at least one month until another department achieves similar participation. Departments reaching 100% giving will receive a special treat and display rights for the traveling trophy.
