Tahoe Bike Month, organized by the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) and the Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition, concluded with record participation. The event attracted 511 residents and visitors who logged 10,880 bike trips covering 80,982 miles and nearly 5.6 million vertical feet.
The participation rate increased by 18 percent compared to last year, marking the highest engagement in the event’s history.
The month-long celebration featured nearly 30 events, including bike path cleanups, repair pop-ups known as “bike kitchens,” and the annual Pride Ride. These activities aim to reduce car dependency and promote cleaner transportation alternatives in Tahoe.
“Bike Month brings our community together, encouraging new riders and celebrating everyday commuters," said Rebecca Cremeen, senior transportation planner at TRPA. "Each year, we see more people choosing to bike for various purposes."
Participants used TahoeBikeMonth.org to track their rides and compete for prizes from local businesses. Notable achievements included Competitive Commuters earning top team status with 162 points; Druin Roberts completing 161 trips; Bob Larsen climbing 94,134 feet; Joshua Hutchens logging a distance of 1,167 miles; and Druin Roberts tackling a significant ride of 288 miles with an elevation gain of 16,955 feet.
“This year’s record-breaking participation reflects a growing commitment to biking as a way of life in Tahoe,” said Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition President Nick Speal. He emphasized the importance of continued investments in safer bike routes alongside TRPA's mission.
Local sponsors played a crucial role in supporting the event. As summer progresses, organizers encourage continued use of biking, walking, or public transit options for sustainable travel in Tahoe. More information is available at LinkingTahoe.com and map.tahoebike.org.
