The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has announced that renovations at its Carson City office will begin on July 28, 2025, with work expected to be finished by the end of the year. The office will stay open during this period, and most construction activities are planned for after business hours and weekends.
“The current look and feel of the Carson office is quite outdated,” said DMV Director Tonya Laney. “We want our office to be more inviting and comfortable to the public and our staff, so we are excited to see the finished product!”
The renovation project will update several areas of the facility. Changes include installing new flooring, countertops, wall coverings, and expanding the test room.
During construction, in-person written testing appointments will not be available. The DMV is advising Nevadans to use the KnowToDrive platform to take permit tests online. Those who have already scheduled a written test before renovations start will still be able to complete their exams using paper tests and clipboards in a designated area within the office.
There will also be no information counter during this time. However, DMV staff members will help direct visitors and answer questions as needed.
“We ask kindly for patience and cooperation as we transition to a better office to serve our customers,” Laney said. “Those who do not need to visit the Carson office in person, please utilize our online services to avoid possible delays throughout this renovation period.”
Updates about the renovation project can be found on dmv.nv.gov and through DMV social media channels.
