Every semester, students, faculty, and staff at the College of Southern Nevada (CSN) commute to campus by various means, including cars, buses, bicycles, or on foot. Their daily journeys depend on the safety of roads, sidewalks, and crossings in the region.

The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) is developing a Safe Streets for All Action Plan aimed at reducing traffic-related deaths and serious injuries throughout the valley. The RTC is seeking feedback from community members who use these streets regularly.

According to recent data from 2019 to 2022, there were more than 2,200 reported crashes in Southern Nevada involving pedestrians or cyclists. Nearly eighty percent of these incidents resulted in injury or death. This issue directly affects CSN students who may walk to bus stops early in the morning or bike home after evening classes.

The Safe Streets for All Action Plan will include surveys, walk audits, and pilot projects over the next year to test new safety strategies. CSN encourages participation from its community members to ensure their concerns are addressed.

"Your input can help make sure that everyone in the CSN community gets to and from campus safely," said a spokesperson.

More information about RTC’s efforts and opportunities for public involvement can be found through their official channels.
