The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has announced the status of its services following a network security incident that took place in the early morning hours of August 24, 2025. The DMV was one of several agencies impacted by this event and is working with the Governor’s Technology Office to restore normal operations.
As of September 2, all DMV offices have reopened but are limited to handling vehicle transactions only. Services currently available include vehicle transactions, drive tests for non-commercial and commercial driver’s licenses, permit testing for both license types, and VIN inspections. However, all services related to driver’s licenses and ID cards remain temporarily unavailable.
To accommodate customers affected by appointment cancellations between August 25 and August 30, the DMV will honor these appointments as walk-ins beginning September 2. This walk-in policy will be in effect for two weeks during regular business hours.
The DMV has also stated that any late fees incurred during the outage period will be waived.
“We understand this time has been frustrating and confusing for most,” said Director Tonya Laney. “Now that we are almost back to normal business operations, we encourage you to please utilize our online resources or kiosks first for the quickest service. If you can avoid an office visit, please do so as others may need help to do more complex transactions.”
For ongoing updates regarding the statewide network outage and available DMV services, residents are advised to check dmv.nv.gov and follow the department’s social media channels.
