Applications are now being accepted for environmental grants funded by the Nevada Lake Tahoe License Plate Program. Public agencies and nonprofit organizations can submit proposals for projects that support environmental restoration and preservation in the Lake Tahoe Basin. The deadline for applications is 4:00 p.m. on November 7, 2025.
The program has provided financial support to a range of initiatives, including water quality projects, improvements to state parks and recreation areas, research and monitoring studies, invasive species surveys and removal efforts, as well as public education campaigns.
Eligible applicants include cities, counties, state and federal agencies, nonprofit organizations, and tribal governments. Application forms and details about past funded projects are available on the Nevada Division of State Lands (NDSL) website at http://lands.nv.gov/resource-programs/tahoe/water-quality/tahoe-license-plate-program. Grant awards are expected to be announced in early 2026.
Funding for these grants comes from sales and annual renewal fees of the Nevada Lake Tahoe license plates. Since its inception, the program has raised more than $14 million to support environmental efforts in the region.
Nevada residents can contribute to these ongoing conservation efforts by purchasing a Lake Tahoe license plate for $61 with an annual renewal fee of $30. More information about charitable license plates is available at dmvnv.com/platescharitable.htm.
