The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has resumed most of its public services following recent disruptions. The department's leadership, IT, and information security teams worked throughout the Labor Day weekend to restore operations.

Tonya Laney, Director of the Nevada DMV, expressed gratitude to her staff and partners. "I want to start off by thanking my DMV team. This Labor Day weekend looked a little different, as we had all hands deck, with our leadership, IT and information security teams working around the clock to resume most of our services to the public," Laney said. She also acknowledged support from Governor Lombardo, his leadership team, and the Governor’s Technology Office: "This would not have been possible without the tremendous support of Governor Lombardo and his leadership team, and the Governor’s Technology Office."

According to Laney, kiosks and online transactions are now available again. DMV offices are open but providing only limited services at this time. Current service offerings can be found on the department’s website at dmv.nv.gov by clicking on “online services” in the top banner or through their social media channels.

Laney listed several services that are currently accessible: Motor Carrier, Vehicle Transactions, Testing, Kiosk Transactions, and MyDMV Portal Transactions.

Staff are addressing backlogs from missed appointments and reaching out to customers directly. Laney clarified that these calls are legitimate: "These calls are not a scam, but we ask our citizens to still be wary of anyone asking for payment over the phone, or charging any extra or expedited fees." Any late fees or penalties that would have occurred during the outage will be waived.

The DMV is not able to issue driver licenses or ID credentials at present but expects this service to resume on September 5, 2025. For those concerned about air travel due to delayed Real ID processing, Laney noted that travelers can use other documentation such as a valid passport or military ID for identification at airports. TSA will accept credentials up to two years past expiration for flying purposes.

Once credentialing systems are restored, DMV offices will prioritize identity transactions in person while directing other tasks like registrations and renewals online or through kiosks.

Laney concluded by thanking staff members, vendor partners, agency directors involved in recovery efforts, and customers for their patience. "In closing, I want to reiterate my thanks to our staff, vendor partners, my fellow agency Directors, and everyone working behind the scenes to do what is possible for our Nevada citizens. I also want to thank our customers for their patience, understanding and support. We see you online helping spread the word and accurate information about this event, and we appreciate you."

She added: "I’m proud to see the support and cooperation that has come from this unfortunate situation. And I’m proud to be a Nevadan."
