A large crowd gathered at the Student Union on September 16 for a Hispanic Heritage celebration marked by music, food, and community engagement. The event featured performances from mariachi musicians and folklórico dancers, as well as remarks from local officials and dignitaries.
Ruben Kihuen served as emcee for the event, joined by co-host Lorena Rodriguez-Rios. The pair welcomed attendees that included Councilwoman Olivia Diaz, Consul of El Salvador Silvia Mabel Romero, and Vice Consul of Mexico Jeremias Guzman. Their messages focused on unity and empowerment within the Hispanic community.
A variety of performers took to the stage throughout the afternoon, culminating in a performance by singer Anahi Lucero that received strong applause from those in attendance.
Traditional foods such as pupusas, empanadas, quesadillas, horchata, and jamaica were served during the event. Attendees lined up with tickets to receive plates of food once service began.
The celebration aimed to highlight Hispanic culture while also bringing together members of the community to honor their heritage and shared experiences.
