The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) has announced it will hold a third round of public workshops in October to discuss proposed policy changes aimed at increasing affordable and workforce housing in the Tahoe Basin. The agency stated that these recommendations have been developed throughout the year with input from community members and technical advisory groups.
Two workshops are scheduled: one on October 6 in South Lake Tahoe, California, and another on October 7 in Kings Beach, California. These sessions are part of the ongoing Cultivating Community, Conserving the Basin project, which seeks to modernize regional growth management systems and building regulations to allow for a broader range of housing options in the area.
During the workshops, TRPA staff will review how previous feedback has shaped current policy recommendations. Attendees will participate in small group discussions to explore how different policies could affect local communities. The recommendations are expected to be presented to the TRPA Governing Board later this year for further consideration.
Karen Fink, TRPA Long Range Planning Manager, said, “We are grateful for the time and energy so many have devoted to helping us and our partners shape the future of housing in the Tahoe Basin. We invite everyone to join us to provide feedback on how we’ve translated your ideas into housing recommendations and stay involved in this process over the coming year.”
TRPA also noted that an environmental impact statement is planned for early next year to assess the proposed policies. This process will offer additional opportunities for public review and comment.
