As National Preparedness Month is observed in September, the University Organizational Resilience – Northern Command (UOR-NC) is encouraging individuals to take practical steps to improve their readiness for emergencies. The theme for this year, "Preparedness Starts at Home," highlights the importance of personal action in preparing for unexpected events such as natural disasters or power outages.

UOR-NC recommends three immediate actions: making a communication plan with family, roommates, or coworkers; assembling an emergency kit with essential supplies; and staying informed by updating emergency contacts in Workday or MyTMCC and downloading the MobileSafety app. The MobileSafety app provides users with access to campus safety resources, including emergency contacts, reporting tools, maps, and a personal safety toolbox.

To further promote preparedness, UOR-NC will launch a monthly micro-training series via Zoom. Each session lasts 20 minutes and aims to help build a culture of readiness among employees and students. The sessions are scheduled for the third Wednesday of each month from 11 to 11:20 a.m. Pacific Time, with registration required due to limited space.

Additional recommendations include saving emergency contacts on phones, familiarizing oneself with the MobileSafety app features, selecting meeting points both near home and outside the neighborhood, maintaining an up-to-date emergency kit with regular checks every six months, and participating in upcoming training sessions.

For more information about preparedness resources or the training series, individuals can visit the TMCC Substation of UOR-NC at Dandini Campus or contact the Police Department.
