United Way of Southern Nevada (UWSN) has announced the launch of the Nonprofit VITA Sites Rehabilitation Program, which aims to improve energy efficiency, accessibility, and safety at Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) clinics in economically distressed areas. The program is now accepting applications until November 14, 2025.

The initiative will provide funding to eight nonprofit organizations whose projects focus on enhancing energy efficiency and accessibility at their VITA sites. Planned improvements include installing LED lighting, performing HVAC tune-ups, applying solar window films, adding directional signage, and making navigation enhancements. These measures are expected to help organizations reduce operational costs and better serve low- to moderate-income households across Congressional District 3 and nearby regions.

Eligible applicants must be nonprofits with valid 501(c)(3) status, a Unique Entity ID (UEI), and current VITA operations within Southern Nevada. Funded activities must comply with HUD Section 3 requirements, federal labor standards, and the Build America, Buy America Act. Applications should be submitted online at uwsn.org/nonprofitvita by November 14. Notifications about funding decisions are scheduled for January 5–9, 2026.

“VITA services are a lifeline for families who rely on free, high-quality tax assistance,” said Samuel Rudd, President and CEO of United Way of Southern Nevada. “This investment allows us to create safer, more energy-efficient, and accessible environments—so nonprofits can focus on what they do best: serving our communities.”

Funding for this project comes from a Community Project Funding grant obtained in partnership with Congresswoman Susie Lee (D-NV-03). The grant is administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development through the Economic Development Initiative as authorized by recent appropriations acts.

Through previous initiatives such as MyFreeTaxes, United Way has assisted over 1.3 million taxpayers in claiming more than $1.9 billion in refunds while saving millions in tax preparation fees. The new rehabilitation program continues these efforts by upgrading facilities that support essential tax services.
