The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) Board of Regents has appointed Dr. Amber Lopez Lasater as Acting President of Nevada State University, effective October 18, 2025. The decision was made following a recommendation from Chancellor Matt McNair, who consulted with Board Chair Byron Brooks, Vice Chair Stephanie Goodman, and members of the Nevada State community.
The Board also announced the start of a national search for a permanent president. A search firm will be engaged to assist the presidential search committee in this process.
Board Chair Byron Brooks stated, "Nevada State is an important part of Nevada’s higher education system. The Board’s actions provide a clear direction for the university’s leadership and next steps in the search process. We appreciate the insight shared by the campus community and the continued commitment of everyone supporting Nevada State."
Chancellor Matt McNair added, "Nevada State serves a vital role in expanding access and opportunity for students. Dr. Lopez Lasater’s knowledge of the campus and dedication to its mission will help guide the university during this transition while the Board begins the process of selecting a permanent president."
Dr. Lopez Lasater has been serving as Officer in Charge at Nevada State since August 2025, overseeing daily operations after former President DeRionne Pollard stepped down on September 5, 2025, to take on a national leadership position.
