Western Nevada College’s astronomy community observed two comets over the weekend. Dr. Thomas Herring, Director of the Jack C. Davis Observatory, photographed Comet C/2025 A6 Lemmon at a Star Party held at the Fernley Library on October 17. The following night, he captured images of Comet C/2025 R2 SWAN at the observatory in Carson City.

Dr. Herring noted that Comet C/2025 A6 Lemmon, which features a distinct tail, may soon become visible to the naked eye. He advised observers to look for it in the northwest sky between the handle of the Big Dipper and the horizon just after sunset.

Comet C/2025 R2 SWAN was described as having a vivid blue-green glow and can be seen in the southwest sky after sunset with a moderate telescope.

During these events, visitors also viewed Saturn, Neptune, and Uranus. Interest is growing for upcoming Star Parties scheduled for November 15 and 22 at Jack C. Davis Observatory.
