After the demolition of casino buildings on the Barton Stateline parcel in 2024, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) issued a permit for grading and temporary best management practices (BMPs) to manage stormwater runoff. However, following heavy storms in January, the BMPs failed, leading to sediment and uncontrolled runoff leaving the site.
TRPA inspectors observed the issue and worked with Barton to address the violation. Barton has since upgraded the BMPs in collaboration with TRPA and water quality engineers. A monitoring team has also been established to oversee the site and prevent future problems.
According to TRPA, "Barton has upgraded the BMPs in consultation with TRPA and water quality engineers, and a team is in place to monitor the site moving forward."
