Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC) Art Galleries are set to unveil four new exhibitions. These include two curated exhibitions featuring the 2022-23 Reno City Artist Rossitza Todorova and the ART 209 Gallery Practices class, along with solo exhibitions by two local artists. The exhibits will be on display from Monday, Oct. 7 to Thursday, Oct. 31 at various locations on the Dandini Campus. An opening reception is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 9 from 5–7 p.m. at the V. James Eardley Student Center and Red Mountain Gallery.
The TMCC Main Gallery will showcase “Between Earth & Sky,” a group exhibition featuring Northern Nevada artists who explore the high desert landscape of the Great Basin. Curated by Todorova, this exhibit includes works by Galen Brown, Grace Davis, Gerald Lee Franzen, Ahren Hertel, Scott Hinton, Asa Kennedy, Kirsten Mashinter, Melissa Melero-Moose, Elaine Parks, Austin Pratt, Gail Rappa, Rachel Stiff, and Sidne Teske.
“Austin Pratt’s abstract paintings are based on organic abstraction,” said Todorova. “His paintings vibrate between elusive images and real physical objects.”
Another featured artist is Sidne Teske with her work “Dugout.” According to Todorova: “Teske uses soft pastels to capture the unique qualities of the high desert landscape.”
The Red Mountain Gallery will feature “VH—physical and emotional vulnerability” which explores themes of liminality and transformation in landscapes.
“Luke’s work masterfully bridges nostalgia and the present moment,” said Kyle Karrasch.
Additionally on display at the Erik Lauritzen Gallery is “Major Arcana” by Birdy McCray.
“Birdy’s work elegantly navigates art, divination, and self-discovery,” noted Karrasch.
The Red Mountain Student Gallery will host “Art Unbound,” curated by TMCC’s ART 209 Gallery Practices class.
“Curating this exhibition has been an incredible experience for our class,” said student curator Heidi Archdekin.
