Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC) Athletics is approaching its sixth season of NJCAA competition. Coaches Geoff Hawkins and Kyle Kelly have been actively recruiting new talent, with many first-year student-athletes set to debut at the collegiate level. As preparations for the fall season continue, a review of the spring and summer activities is timely.

In April, the Mighty Lizard Men’s and Women’s Soccer teams participated in several spring scrimmages against local clubs, junior colleges, and universities. These games allowed players to experiment with new positions and tactics while receiving individual coaching. Both Coach Hawkins and Coach Kelly aim to build on this experience as they enter the regular season.

This summer marked TMCC’s second year hosting youth soccer camps. The camps were held over three separate week-long sessions, offering both half-day and full-day options for children aged 8-14. Participants engaged in group training, tactical film sessions, scrimmages, and indoor soccer (futsal), focusing on spatial awareness and possession skills. The staff emphasized individual improvement while ensuring that campers enjoyed their time on the pitch.

Changes within Region XVIII have intensified competition since last season. With the departure of College of Southern Nevada to Region I, the Scenic West Athletic Conference has added College of Southern Idaho and North Idaho College. TMCC looks forward to competing against these new opponents while appreciating past matches with CSN.

The upcoming fall schedule includes seven home matches for both Men’s and Women’s Soccer teams:

– 9/7 – vs. College of Southern Idaho – 11 a.m. (W) / 1:30 p.m. (M)
– 9/19 – vs. Salt Lake Community College – 1 p.m. (W) / 3:30 p.m. (M)
