Eleven students and five faculty members from the TMCC Radiologic Technology program recently participated in two significant industry conferences, demonstrating their skills in medical imaging. The events, the Association of Collegiate Educators in Radiologic Technology (ACERT) and the Nevada Society of Radiologic Technologists (NvSRT), took place over four days in early February in Las Vegas.
The ACERT conference serves as a platform for educators to discuss challenges and opportunities within radiologic technology, focusing on advocacy and professional advancement. NvSRT is dedicated to promoting excellence in medical imaging within Nevada.
“At the ACERT conference, we had two scholarship winners, and four students won first place in an undergraduate original research poster submission—this is the first time TMCC has entered the contest!” said Rori Wilkis, Director of Radiologic Technology. “Three students placed in the top 100 in the national student competition, out of 575 students.”
Wilkis added: “On Saturday, we attended the NvSRT annual conference and the students competed against Great Basin College (GBC) and University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) radiology for the Golden Nevada skeleton and we won! We haven’t had the Golden Skeleton since 2018. I’m so proud of all our students for their hard work and dedication.”
The recognized students include Carl Chapman, Josh Hvegholm, Ulises De Leon, and Robert Bada for their poster presentation; Josh Hvegholm and Debra Scolnick as scholarship recipients; Kelly Ducato, Sam Davis, Robert Bada for their performance in ACERT’s student competition; and Robert Bada who contributed to winning the NvSRT Golden Skeleton.
Gratitude was expressed by Wilkis and participating students towards TMCC Student Government Association and Lambda Nu honor society for helping fund attendance at these conferences.
