Peterbilt Truck Parts and Equipment, along with Silver State International, have donated the latest ISX 15 and ISL9 engines equipped with Allison Transmissions to Truckee Meadows Community College’s (TMCC) Diesel Program. The donation ceremony took place on August 28 at the William N. Pennington Applied Technology Center, where a snow-white cab was displayed.

The event was attended by students, faculty, and staff who expressed their gratitude for the new equipment. Peterbilt CEO John Philips, TMCC President Karin Hilgersom, and Diesel Technology Instructor Kyle Smith highlighted the importance of this contribution in training students for employment upon completing their certificates.

“Thank you, Mr. John Philips, for this generous donation. Thank you, Charlie Brown, for being the advisory board chair. Of course, thank you to our amazing faculty: Kyle Smith, Jeremy Coggin, and Svend Hellested. Having an outstanding program connecting to the industry takes a village. I’m so grateful,” said Hilgersom.

Smith added his perspective on how donations like these help students transition into productive employees: “I can remember entering the industry without training or experience and floundered… Donations like this from Peterbilt and Silver State support help students transition from not knowing anything to confidently and quickly becoming productive employees.”

In other news, TMCC has updated its website with several enhancements aimed at improving user experience. The revamped site features a sleek visual upgrade and an intuitive interface that allows easy navigation between pages containing information on academic programs, enrollment steps, financial aid details, campus tours, college statistics, class searches, and upcoming events.

The website refresh project involved extensive internal efforts over more than a year by Web Services team members Conrad Wong and Dallin Crane. They were supported by student workers Alaine Obra and Dylana Camacho.

Cal Anderson, Web Services Director at TMCC stated: “Shout outs to the incredible team who made this possible… Through every round of testing and feedback they never complained.” He also acknowledged KWALL digital agency’s support team for their expertise in fine-tuning the site.
