The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) has announced new scholarships aimed at empowering community engagement in addressing affordable housing challenges. The initiative, known as the Cultivating Community, Conserving the Basin scholarships, offers up to $25,000 in total awards to support individuals participating in training courses related to planning, environmental regulations, growth management, public safety, and zoning.

Julie Regan, Executive Director of TRPA, stated: “We want to ensure that many voices help shape solutions to affordable housing that improve safety and continue to protect Lake Tahoe.” She added that the scholarships and training opportunities are designed to equip those most affected by housing issues with the necessary knowledge and skills for effective decision-making.

The scholarship program includes most awards up to $1,600 each and one larger award of $3,000 for attending a conference. It is designed as a complement to TRPA’s Community Academy webinar series which facilitates education through discussion and practical learning experiences.

Participants who receive these scholarships will be encouraged to provide feedback on enhancing the training program. The Community Academy webinars are publicly accessible with recordings available online at www.tahoeliving.org.
